PLATE PAINTING WORKSHOP - 18TH MAY 2018
Last Friday, Year 1 and Year 6 painted plates to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan on their marriage. We had lots of fun painting them and learnt about Prince Harry's new coat of arms.

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY - WEAR YOUR ODD SOCKS! - 21ST MARCH 2018
Today is World Down Syndrome Day and children were invited to wear odd socks in return for a small donation.
Thank you to all our families who helped raise money for the Yorkshire Down Syndrome Group, a group run by one of our parents.
We will let you know how much money was raised soon.
NSPCC NUMBER DAY 2018 - 2ND FEB 2018
Today saw all the children and staff wearing rock star outfits in KS2 and number outfits in KS1, everyone made a donation to the NSPCC.
KS2 held a TT Rock Stars Times Table competition in which children had to compete in 2 rounds of multiplication and division questions to get to the final.
Well done to everyone dressing up and supporting a very worthwhile charity - watch this space to see how much we raised!

NATIONAL WINNIE THE POOH DAY - 18TH JANUARY 2018
To celebrate National Winnie the Pooh Day, our school council members read some much loved Winnie the Pooh stories to each class.
YOUNG VOICES - 15TH JANUARY 2018
On Monday 15th January, our Y5 children took part in ‘Young Voices’ at Sheffield Arena. This is an amazing event that gives children the opportunity to form a gigantic choir with children from other schools and perform for a real audience in an arena. The children have been practising their singing and dance moves in preparation. This is the second year we have participated in Young Voices and I know our Y4 children are already looking forward to their turn next year! Thanks to staff and parents for your support for this event, it’s a very long day but well worth it! Have a look at some of the children’s reflections of the experience below:
I will always remember Young Voices, we rehearsed the songs and then when our parents arrived to watch all the lights went out and everyone turned on their Young Voices torches and it looked amazing.

Young Voices was one of the experiences in my life that I will never forget! All the hard work and practicing paid off, I went from not knowing any songs in September to knowing almost every word in every song by the time of the show. Preparing for the magical, marvellous moment was fabulous, seeing everybody singing together for the first time was fantastic.

When I looked into the audience, all I could see was the dancing lights behind them. Then all of a sudden, everyone turned on their torches. It looked like stars twinkling in the night sky.

MUSICA KIRKLEES ORCHESTRA RECITAL - 19TH DECEMBER
On Tuesday 19th December, Musica Kirklees gave a fantastic live musical performance to the whole school. Budding music fans were able to enjoy recitals from an assortment of musical families to explore how sound is created by different instruments.
The children were even treated to a song by Mrs Wilson and Mrs Smithson, have a look at the video and photos below.

NORTHERN BALLET WORKSHOP - 13TH DECEMBER
The Northern Ballet came into year 5 to teach us ballet and show us the techniques. We learnt jumps from 1st to 2nd position and how to do arabesque (balancing on one leg).
Two people came to look for people who have talent. The four people who got ‘spotted’ received golden tickets and three free lessons. It was so much fun, we would rate it a 10/10 and definitely recommend it.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE 2017
Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Faye last week. We had lots of festive fun and raised money for our school, POW and Mugango Primary School - our link school in Tanzania.

CHOIR PERFORMANCE - NOVEMBER 2017
Last weekend, the school choir took part in two Christmas events. We sang on Saturday at the St Saviour’s church Christmas Fayre and then on Sunday at Gomersal Park Hotel. We sang many songs that the audience loved and on Sunday we had a photo taken with the mayoress. All of the choir enjoyed both events and helped raise money for Kirkwood Hospice.

CHILDREN IN NEED - 17TH NOVEMBER
Thank you for supporting Children In Need last week. It was lovely to see everyone wearing spots and our bake sale was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the children’s tasty treats. We handed over the leadership of this event to the children and it was fantastic to see them running their own stalls and interacting with those people who attended.
Thank you for your support. Altogether, we raised £1010.20 which will be shared between Children in Need and School fund.

POWER OF ONE - ANTI BULLYING ASSEMBLY - 16TH NOVEMBER
The Power of One play taught us to never bully or be a bystander because of the consequences that could effect the victims feelings. During the play, they showed us different bullying such as cyber bullying, physical bullying and verbal bullying.
We were also shown a different scene about bystanders and how they effect people. In that scene , we saw what happened when you are bullied and how to stop it, this was to tell a teacher or a parent. It was all very enjoyable and we learnt that we all have the POWER OF ONE.

The Power of One team came in to teach us about how to handle bullying. I was asked to dress up as a superhero to discover what was inside the Power of One box. Inside was a mirror, so the message was to stand up to bullying as an individual.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 10TH NOVEMBER
Today at school we have remembered the brave soldiers who fought for their country. Children shared their thoughts and prayers about Remembrance, writing them onto red ribbon which was then tied to our reflection tree.
Our Year 6 children led a Remembrance Service outside by the reflection tree. The service involved the children singing 'The Remembrance Song' and the recital of the poem 'In Flanders Fields', followed by our Head Boy and Head Girl laying our poppy wreath by the reflection tree.
"This morning, it was our Remembrance Service. We held this service to remember the people who fought in the war. The Head Boy and Head Girl laid a poppy wreath and we finished the service with a prayer."

ALADDIN PANTOMIME - 8TH NOVEMBER
This morning the whole school were treated to a performance of Aladdin from M&M Theatrical Productions. We followed Aladdin on his adventures as he freed a genie from a lamp and rescued Princess Jasmine.
"I enjoyed the part when Aladdin became a prince. The funniest part was when Abu the monkey was acting silly! My favourite character was Jasmine because she was so pretty. I loved it when I went on stage to draw hair on Harry Potter!"

Collective Worship Assembly - 7th November
This half term we are focusing on "Faith". On Tuesday 7th November our Collective Worship Council introduced the value to us in school. They talked about Faith being about believing in and having trust in things we cannot see. The week before, we had all discussed this in class and made "Faith Crosses" and wrote about things we believed in but couldn't see. Have a look at some of our ideas and thoughts below:
The Collective Worship council talked to us about how Christians use prayer to show their faith in God. They talked us through "The Lords Prayer" and discussed what it means.
We talked about all the prayers we say in school, and introduced a new prayer that we will say at the end of every Collective Worship.
MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING - 20TH OCTOBER
We wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for attending our coffee morning. As always, it was a well attended event and the pupils all really enjoyed taking part too.
It was useful to read your feedback on the day - our Collective Worship Council did a super job coming and chatting to you all to find out what you thought. What was really effective was that we were able to address some of your comments there and then - some of you asked for forks for cakes and they were swiftly provided! Words used by you to describe the day were:
We do listen to you and take your ideas into account, so whilst most of you thought the morning was perfect just the way it was, for next year we will be taking on board the suggestions to:

Start our coffee morning a little earlier (at 8.30am) so we can include more of our working families

Have our visitors pay an entrance fee/make a donation so they can come straight in and sit down at a table which will have drinks and cakes available for them to access straight away, to avoid queuing

Ensure we label cakes as vegetarian, dairy/gluten free etc
-
It was also suggested that the children may like to run their own fundraiser. Look out for Children In Need on Friday 17th November where our pupils will be selling their own baking to raise money

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARVEST DONATIONS - 9TH OCTOBER
Thank you for giving so generously to our Food Bank collection this Harvest- we were totally overwhelmed by how much essential food and toiletries you donated.
Our Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl delivered these to Batley Food Bank and Batley Drop In Centre this week.
